Honey hunting is an old traditional practice of extracting wild bees honey which are generally found away from human settlement in high cliffs trees and caves. In Nepal, the Gurung community has been carrying out this tradition for over a decade. Members of the community come together to search for the honey and uses traditional techniques that involve climbing mountain cliffs using ropes made by their own hands, using doko baskets to harvest honey, and making fire and smoke to chase the bees away from their nests. Honey hunting is a very skillful and time-consuming activity that requires deeper knowledge of the right time to harvest. Thus, it is not only a very valuable traditional activity but also a true test of a hunter’s strength and power.
